Welcome to Morel Hair Design

Morel Hair Design

What attracted Jorge Hernandez to build and David Barrett FASID to design MOREL HAIRDESIGN at The Plaza in Locust Valley was the uniqueness of the space. The setting was perfect, having a second floor which could be used for color processing and double as a private area to accommodate bridal and private parties in a market that is growing by leaps and bounds. Positioning the manicure/pedicure station, along with the make up area was incredibly imaginative and adds to the private party market. The main level maintains normal business in an attractive and soothing environment. The reception area houses a state-of-the-art salon computer system and a waiting area that houses a flat screen TV where our patrons can view the newest trends in color, styling and hair fashions. Mr. Barrett designed a bathroom/changing area which extends the luxurious feeling the salon portrays.

The challenge was to create a setting that would cater to the upscale clientele who live on what is called “The Gold Coast” of the North Shore of Long Island. Selecting state of the art equipment was crucial, the color and lighting selected in the salon has created a soothing aura. The use of mirror has expanded the space. The “trompe l’oeil” artwork adds glamour, fantasy and whimsy to the comfort and luxury of the hi-tech equipment, thus completing the overall decorating scheme. All of the techniques that were utilized in the design send a “buzz” that has attracted a variety of new patrons.

The color mixing unit, “Climazon” heat processors, shampoo areas have certainly enhanced the productivity of the stylists. The computer system adds to the accessibility of client history and is incredibly important to the overall point of sale process and reconciliations of daily sales. The entire salon was design for easy maintenance from the “trompe l’oeil” window treatments to the washable walls.

The reason for selecting the design firm of David Barrett Interiors was to design a commercial space that would achieve the intention of the salon owner. By engaging Mr. Barrett’s talent, we avoided mistakes in design, equipment selection and comfort for the clientele we wanted to attract.

The salon was introduced to the community with a “Grand Opening” party on December 15, 2005. Subsequently, we have hosted parties for merchants in the area, and joined various merchant organizations. The salon continues to host local community events, wine tastings, fashion shows and product promotions. It only advertises in upscale publications.

The next big trend in salon design will be for more custom client services. Focusing on the total experience of the client and their individual needs in a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere. Salons need to be designed to pamper the salon patron in a professional surrounding of escape.
